In a previous article, I wrote about the desperate attempts by some Copts to find Coptic origin in many Arab words or words that entered us through Arabs, such as ‘nayrouz’, the Persian word. Today, I talk briefly about the silly rendering of the word “Al-Qahira”, Cairo, which some Copts tried to see a Coptic origin of. In their attempt, Qahira is to them nothing but “kahi ra”, which is in Coptic “Land of Ra”(Land of the God, Ra)!
This is in complete neglect of the historical facts.
It’s a syndrome that reveals weakness rather than attests to the strength of the Coptic language, or its resilience and survival.
