A Study of Bohairic Coptic by Nabil Mattar, published in 1990 by Hope Publishing House, is an excellent book in the study of Coptic Bohairic, and together with that by Sameh Younan, So, You Want to Learn Coptic? (2005), form the two main modern books on the language produced by Copts.

But, despite the richness of its content, it suffers from major problems in its style and layout: it does not make an easy reading. This is perhaps because the author wanted his book to be simultaneously used by Copts who speak mainly Arabic and those who speak mainly English: the explanatory text is written in both English and Arabic.

If the author ever plans to publish a second edition, he would be strongly advised to publish two separate versions:  one directed at the Copts who don’t know English, and the other to Copts, and others, who speak English. In this way, his excellent book will be better appreciated, and it will help the reader in studying Coptic with much ease.
