In a previous article, Links to the important book by Ramzi Tadrus: The Copts in the twentieth century (August 9, 2020), I talked about the monumental four-volume (if not five) book of the Coptic historian Ramzi Tadrus.
Now, I would like to talk about another of Tadrus’ books: دائرة المعارف القبطية (The Coptic Encyclopaedia), which I can find only Volume 1 online of it (date of publication unknown). It includes all entries under the Arabic letter ‘aleph, أ’. He says that the book will include ten volumes.
I have been under the impression that Aziz S. Atiya was the first to edit and produce a Coptic encyclopaedia (The Coptic Encyclopedia), which came out in 1991, being published by NY: Macmillan. It is now taken by the Coptic Studies Council at the Claremont University, and is now known as Claremont Coptic Encyclopedia. But it seems that Ramzi Tadrus was actually the first Copt to produce a Coptic encyclopaedia.
I have searched for this encyclopaedia and could not find except Volume 1 online. It is published by Coptic Treasures, and the reader can find it here.
If he did manage to publish all ten volumes, it is a shame that the researcher and reader cannot find it online.
